Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living -
By Mark Givert

What can I learn right now in just
10 minutes that could be useful for the rest of my life?

Actually in about 2 minutes you can learn how to watch your breath and control it with ease.

Step 1: Watch the Breath
Sit down somewhere quiet and comfortable and relax.

Now just start observing/watching your breath; pay attention to your inhalation and exhalation. Do not do anything just watch. Experience it entering the nostrils and leaving the nostrils, feel the warmth of it. Concentrate only on this.

Calmness:
As you watch the breath and concentrate only on this, you start to become calm!!!

As with any new skill this will take practice, however it is a simple enough exercise to learn. Now all you have to do is practice!!

So step 1 can be used to achieve calmness at will by simply performing step 1 of this exercise.

Step 2:
Now begin to slow the breath down little by little; this means making your inhalation and exhalation a little slower, a little longer. Do not strain ensure this is easy and relaxed.

Relaxation
Taking longer slower deeper breaths you will observe that more calmness ensues and more relaxation.

 Reduced Blood Pressure
Actually your heart rate will reduce and blood pressure will reduce where it has been high.

This is good.

So What?
Now of course the million dollar question is how can this be useful for the rest of my life......

Please read on...........

So the Yogis have been working with breath control since time immemorial, with good reason.

What is it they know?
Simply put by watching you breath and learning to control it you are able to take control of your thinking.

Your Thinking Follows Your Breathing
When you are restless and agitated, thinking a million thoughts a minute, you will notice your breathing is rapid and shallow.

Now the interesting part......

Practice Steps 1 & 2

You will notice that as you relax and watch the breath and then begin to slow your breath down, your thinking will also calm down. The number of thoughts you have will REDUCE and you will RELAX.

This is amazing for reducing stress and relaxing at will.

Calmness Brings Increased Creativity & Inspiration
The calmer you are actually the clearer will be your thinking and in fact the more creative you will be.

You will be able to concentrate more effectively which means you will be able to do more work in less time.

Why?
Because you have taken the first step at controlling your thinking. Most of us have Zero control over our thinking which is a major issue.

After all EVERY ACTION is the result of your thinking.

If we have no control over our thinking we have no control over what we say or do......you know the rest only too well.
